I didn’t think that the daredevil phase of toddlerhood would come about so quickly… Running, jumping, climbing trees, sure, in time.
But at 20 months old, wanting to slide down the slide – HEAD FIRST, was not one of the things I anticipated. But, here we are.
Next time you see me, if you spot a newly sprouted gray, please just don’t acknowledge it. I don’t have the heart to face it yet. ha!
We spent a lot of time at the park over the weekend, exploring some of the new ones in our town, and we have found out that Emmett is the most content kid when he is giving me raging anxiety and making loop after loop up and down, and around on every slide possible.
I made sure he was staying safe, going down with him on my lap, then he would take off, adventuring on his own, leaving me in the dust to fend for myself with every emotion wreaking havoc on my nerves.
I’m quickly edging on Elizabeth Bennett’s mother’s crazy status here, people.
But with each trip down every slide he became more confident, then wanting to RUN down the slides.
Then, it was FACE FIRST down the slides. Completely, unabashedly, wild. This boy is going to test every last nerve of mine, it’s true, and that is fine, it’s what being a boy mom is I guess.
But when those hard playing days are done, he is also perfectly content to spend the time in the kitchen, right by my side, standing on his “door” as he calls his step stool, to watch what I am doing, try to help, tip things over, and beg to be held so he can see what is going on right out of his reach and view.
There is no point in fighting it, no point in trying to keep his little chubby baby paws out of photos, and not be more in love with this boy with every passing day. My littlest love may not be so little, but in this moment between growing boy and babyness he possess, I’ll take every ounce of love and light I can get. Cheeky baby boy.
