As a food blogger, the most cliché thing I could ever say is that my favorite room in the house is my kitchen. I love each room in my house for all very different reasons, but my kitchen is my favorite because it’s the heart of my home. Have you ever noticed that every time you have a dinner party, everyone congregates in or near the kitchen? It could be the tiniest kitchen known to man – like yours’ truly, or it could be an expansive and impressive space, with friends leaning against the island laughing and swilling a glass of wine, and launching themselves across the way for the last canapés on the board. It’s the natural spot to be, and where I feel most comfortable. Screen shot 2015-07-20 at 7.11.43 PM I’ve done my best learning in the kitchen, mostly in the tiny ones I’ve lived in since I became an adult. It’s where I grew, where I became inquisitive, where I made mistakes, took solace, and where I showed my love to others from what came out of it piping hot, and probably loaded with chocolate. And that is one thing that GE Appliances understands about the American kitchen – it’s where the heart of the home is. For over a 110 years, they have honed in on this reality that it’s the heartbeat and soul of the home, and where people most identify with themselves and grow together. Screen shot 2015-07-20 at 7.12.12 PM It’s been the heart of my home whether it was with my family, who came to the U.S. from the Czech Republic, where I learned to make the perfect dumpling from my grandmother, or during the neighbor’s New Year’s Day brunch where we celebrated with traditional Norwegian cookies while my sister and I perched around the kitchen island, watching unblinkingly. I soaked it all in, celebrated the friendships and bonds forged, and the laughs that everyone shared. Screen shot 2015-07-20 at 7.12.26 PM The family kitchen helps us transform in so many ways, and GE Appliances showcases the dream of the American kitchen, our American kitchen. It’s our place to learn, come together, bond and grow as individuals and as a family. How will you grow in your own American kitchen?

GE Appliances has launched a new documentary series called Our American Kitchen, which explores the unique roles that the kitchen plays in the life of American families. We are all different, with diverse histories and cultures, and yet the kitchen remains at the heart of our experience at home and where families connect, cook, and celebrate. You can view the short documentary film about Chase’s Cooking Show here and the film about The Richards Family here.
