Drink up, with this sweet and floral twist on a traditional drink! This Rosewater Manhattan is perfectly floral, and just as homey as the original.

Did you wake up this morning and realize that it was a little darker outside?! What on earth is going on? I mean, besides that natural progression of earth shift, that comes with seasonal change… It’s like, did the earth just decide in one day that it was like “nope, I’m good” and decide that it was done with having the sun shine at 5 am?! Or maybe I’m the only one that notices because I get up at 4 am and it’s an ungodly hour anyway…
If I can’t have my morning sunrises, please Summer, just let’s stick with this sun shine staying out til past 8 thing, I like enjoying my evenings with you. And a cocktail. These rosewater Manhattans, perhaps?
Yes, I get up at 4 am for work. Work, yup it’s true I do still have a “real” job besides this blog, starts just after 6 am, where I get to the construction trailer and plop down in front of my desk to start in on the day of project and construction management. My company helps a large aerospace company you have no doubt heard of that that starts with “B” and ends in “oeing”, build the buildings that build their planes. And most days, like today (it’s probably the coffee talking, and the fact that it’s Friday and the weekend is in sight) I love my job.
It’s always different, it changes, and the people I work with a crack squad of savvy, fun, motivated people who love what they do too.
The mark of a good team is when you can go out for a beer with your team after work and I’ve been fortunate to find a team I can work with and still want to hang out with at the end of the day. Now that is a good team. It doesn’t happen often, and with the end of this current project starting to wind down, we (read :: I) start getting a little sentimental, thinking about how far we’ve come with this project and how far we still have left to go. And at the end of the day, and at the end of the project, I will definitely cheer to all of these guys’ and gals’ hard work.
This inspired cocktail came to me with the help of Nielsen-Massey’s Rosewater Extract, giving this traditional Manhattan a light and floral twist. Summer can’t escape us just yet, I won’t let it! Break out the glasses, enjoy the summer blooms a little longer and sit back and sip this delightful drink in the sunshine while you still can.
1 cup Sugar, for simple syrup
1 cup Water, for simple syrup
1/4 tsp Nielsen-Massey Rose Water, for simple syrup
1/4 tsp Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Extract, for simple syrup
3 Ounces Whisky
Jarred Bing Cherry or Maraschino Cherries
In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer so the sugar dissolves completely, about five minutes. Stir occasionally. Remove from the heat and place in the fridge to cool. When cool, stir in the Nielsen-Massey rose water and vanilla extracts. Set aside.
In a cocktail shaker, fill with ice, add in 1/2 ounce rose water simple syrup, 3 ounces whiskey, and three dashes of bitters. Add in one slice of orange and one cherry. Top shaker, and shake vigorously. Pour cocktail into glasses. Top with additional slice of orange, and cherry. Serve immediately.
