How to Pick the Perfect Pineapple Every Time
Learn the keys on how to pick the perfect pineapple every time. It may not be what you think, but it sure does that trick!
There are so many tricks to know when you pick out the perfect fruit. Don’t say you don’t squeeze those mangoes to see if their ripe. Or sniff the cantaloupe to see if they smell sweet. Each fruit has their own perfect trick to find out if they’re perfect to pick out and take home.
Pineapples are no different!
When you’re at the store, it’s tough to know exactly which one to pick – but this trick that I learned from my best friend’s mother in law has yet to fail me. When you’re in the produce aisle pick out a pineapple, and look into the fronds – try not to get poked.
Look for a smaller frond near the middle.
When you find the frond, gently tug. If the frond comes right out – then you have found the perfect pineapple. If it doesn’t release – nope, it’s not the pineapple for you!
You can always smell a good pineapple too. These two signs mean you’re on the right track for the perfect pineapple every time.

This is such a cool trick and I can’t wait to try it out. Because nothing is sadder than when you get home and find your fruits aren’t ripe or very sweet. Yeah!
I never knew that about picking out the frond in the middle. Great tip.
Love this girl! I have been picking fronds for years now but I still always wonder, is it the right one. Well, now I’m gonna start flipping it over and smelling! 🙂
I love your how to posts and this one is great! I’m such a fruit snob and get so mad when I get home and don’t have the perfect piece of fruit. So glad I know how to get the perfect pineapple!
Love this post Megan! I just learned how to pick the perfect pineapple <1 year ago. I've had the post ready in draft, I just need to publish! Yet, I've never gotten around to it – so I'm so glad you did! But, learning that was eye opening for me! It's so great to pick a pineapple, and then when you cut it up at home to find it's so absolutely fragrant, juicy and delicious!
I’ve never heard of the frond thing, will have to try that next time. But I always sniff them. If I can’t smell sweetness, I know it’s not worth buying!
