There are days when I can’t get enough of my squishy faced, velveteen eared, uber-goob of a labra-dork Huckleberry. If you’ve known me for any length of time, you already know this. For those of you who haven’t known me long – yeah, I’m that doggie mom. He’s my kid, what can I say?
Today, after a marathon cleaning session, I felt that the apartment needed to be dirtied up a bit again and fixing the hound some treats seemed like a good way to get the house a little flour dusted.
These are incredibly simple treats, packed with ingredients you can actually pronounce and whip up in about 45 minutes. Not bad, eh?
For your grocery list be sure to include:
~ 1 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
~ 1/4 cup AP Flour (you can use all Whole Wheat if you want, I just ran out)
~ 1 1/2 tsp Beef Bouillon
~ 1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
~ 2/3 cup Milk
~ 1 1/2 Tbsp. Margarine
I preheated my oven to 350 degrees and got to work mixing all of the ingredients together with a drooling dork sitting right next to me, intently watching for crumbs to fall. You’ve never seen intensity until you’ve seen a labrador waiting for food.

First off the two flours were stirred together. There was no point in whisking them together, since the tackiness of the dough would be too much for my poor whisk to handle. Use a wooden spoon or some other hefty mixing beast.

The 1 1/2 tsp of beef bouillon was added next so that it would be evenly distributed in the flours before any moisture was added. I know I would want to be slammed with pockets of beef salt if I bit into one of these… maybe the Dude wouldn’t care, he’s a dog after all. So I just added it in at this step to calm my neurosis.

Next the shredded cheddar and margarine were blended in.

After a couple of minutes of blending small pea sized bits will start to appear. You know you’re on the right track here.

Last but not least is the milk. Here is were the tack occurs. About here is where the dog was hanging drool over my leg…gross. But he’s cute so it’s allowed.

The whole wad was rolled out on a cutting board until it was about 1/3″ thick.

Then resource yourself a cookie cutter in some dog-tastic shape and siphon away cookie after cookie.

Of course if there is any dough left over, toss a few wads the way of the pup. There’s no egg, so it’s not going to hurt ’em to have a little raw.
Bake on a heavy duty non stick pan for 30 minutes and viola! Melty beefy pupper treats that will please any four legged yapper you know.

And see that intensity I was talking about?  Now let me tell you – he’s been following me around tripping at the heels all evening. He must think they’re pretty amazing with that kind of love being tossed my way. Or he just knows I’m a sucker for those big sad seal eyes…
And now – for the GIVEAWAY. I know that I’m not the only weird doggie mama out there. So this week I will be offering up a Wilton Cook Cutter Set with all the doggie shapes you could stand.
I’ll also be including recipe cards for all three of my puppy treats, including Pumpkin Puppy Treats, Banana Oatmeal, this one above and maybe a surprise recipe if I’m feeling ambitious.

*Obligatory Author’s Note* – I love my dog and all dogs for that matter, so I’m showing the love by giving one of these away. It was purchased with my own hard earned cash. I am a Wilton Method Cake Decorating Instructor, but I like the products as well and am providing this independently. Over and out.*
