Wedding Flower Arrangements
Since most (90%) of our wedding still has yet to be planned – I felt it was time to make a little progress by working on what colors we may want as part of our big day. For the longest time I’d been in love with a lavender, wheat and sage color combination, but lately my mind has turned to a wheat, teal and poppy palette that would mix old and modern tones.
The other part I wanted to ensure I included in our wedding was some country-esque themes. How on earth could I do this?
Ben, in his infinitely fantastic decorating wisdom used to have vases full of dried wheat around his apartment. It was a fantastic way of incorporating some texture and dimension into a typically lifeless white walled apartment. Since we are no long living in our beloved Palouse, I’ve been dreaming of adding dried wheat into our bouquets and table decorations from day one.
Then while doing a little grocery shopping, we purchased a couple of bottles of milk – glass bottles, like the old school ones that actual Milkman would bring by. How could we not use these for vases? Today I put it all to the test and broke out those bottles to do a demonstration and make sure it was as beautiful in real life as it was in my head.
We’re lacking the dried wheat right now, but perhaps we can snag some on an adventure back east later this summer during harvest. Poppies were plentiful at the farmer’s market this morning, so I picked up a quick bouquet that had a few dashed in just to give me a visual representation of what I was dreaming about. And really, I don’t think I’m too off my rocker here.
Love love love Poppies! They look so cute in those milk jugs!
The poppies in milk jugs are a great idea. I kind of like the straight tan twine, too. The twine would give dimension, while tying in the dried wheat–when you get some. We had bright stargazer lilies with baby ivy, and white accents. for our wedding flowers.
Those are adorable!! I really like the milk jugs and the twine together. I'm not sure what your colors are but doing a combination like that would be really cute, especially if you were doing a country themed wedding.
My favorite flowers are calla lilies, orchids and tulips. Not necessarily together though. I like them the most because they come is such a wide array of colors and they can be paired up with so many different things.
At my wedding I just did a bouquet for me. Our center pieces were vases with red rock and gold fish and then we gave them away to anyone who wanted them. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.503870943364.2022204.193302113&l=873a976b28 (It's one of the last pictures.)
Can't wait to see more ideas!!!
Megan! Those are gorgeous! Totally go with the milk jugs…although you could throw in some Mason jars just to spice it up! I love the color combo too. I hope to use sunflowers, mums and daisies one day….fall wedding. LOL Some day! 😉
love the idea. what about a grosgrain ribbon for around the top instead of twine?
very cute!! you might consider tieing the wheat into the twine (or a ribbon i like that idea surly) on the outside kinda like a harvest knot…that way you can have water with your flowers and not get the dried wheat all mushy and water icking. My unexpectedly favorite flower from my wedding was my white peonies with the blush pink fade at the center very large and wildflower-esqe… but for a country-esque wedding don't forget your lilacs beautiful lavender color with sage stems… screams farmers backyard… or your Gerber daisies (which come in any and i mean any color)which just beg to be in a milk jar. Good luck and have fun the planning is the part you will remember most!
