(Attempted) Wedding Diets
Between the Atkins, Zone, South Beach, Jenny, Nutrisystem, and Lord knows how many other types of diets there are out there – how is anyone in their right mind supposed to choose the right one? Holy crap.
For the two months and a half months that Ben and I have been engaged, I have lost a grand total of (most likely) ZERO pounds. There was a plan, just like there always is in these types of situations…come up with a goal, make goal happen. But right now it’s not coming to fruition.
Oh, don’t worry – I’m not going to dribble on here acting like I don’t know why things aren’t going my way. It’s the carbs, the fats, the sugars I can’t quite eliminate and the general deliciousness that makes up all food. Yup, I’m a foodie – hear me roll!!
But as a step in the right direction, I have been curtailing my diet to include more fruits and veggies and attempting to cut out the more useless simple sugars that only seek to destroy my progress and send my blood sugar on a roller coaster that would make a small child chuck.
The gym has been my companion after work for nearly 5 days a week the last few weeks, hoping to ramp up that metabolism and build up the muscle that seems to be hiding behind the dense layer of winter coat I have accrued since hurting my back a few years ago. But NO MORE!!
Those muscles are palpable. Those muscles are making a comeback. Those muscles are starting to peek out from behind their fatty curtain to show themselves once again. Victory. Will. Be. Mine.
So now, I’d really like to ask you all….what are your diets tips and tricks? What is your must do workout activity? What trick to do you use to stave off that last bite of the brownie? I am all ears!!
1. If you are inclined to exercise, do it right when you get home or right away in the morning(then there aren't any excuses).
2. I swear by the book "The Skinny" by Melissa Clark and Robin Aronson. It's out of print but there are still tons of copies on Amazon.com to my knowledge that are like, el cheapo (unless something has changed that I've totally missed).
3. I only eat off of salad plates at dinnertime. That way, if I take seconds, it's like eating a regular portion of food than taking seconds of a giant plate.
I love ur honesty! I've had my "winter coat" on for a couple of years now and I just started P90X this week to start shedding it for graduation/summer. Besides I want to be in good shape for nursing because lord only knows how many people I'm going to have to lift! It is so hard to diet! Good job on going to the gym 5 days a week!
I'm going to say that I'm one of the lucky ones who have never had to diet, I mean, I watch what I eat obviously. I'm lucky that I don't have a very sweet tooth though, not a fan of soda or anything. I know how hard it can be to cut out those things that you love though (read: Isie loves cake). Also, running is my friend. I don't know if I could do 5 days a week though!
Thanks for the tips, tricks and the encouragement! Your girls totally Rock 🙂
Kat, I love the "eat off a salad" plate trick. I use that as much as possible, but I know I slip up a little too often.
Haley, Let me know how you like the P90X. I've always wanted to try it 🙂
Isie – Thanks for the encouragement 🙂 It's tough, but I know the little "sacrifices of sweets" will be worth it in the end 🙂
We don't call a diet a diet in my household it is a lifestyle change. My husband struggles with his weight and has recently been going to a gym, has hired a trainer and pays attention to what and when he eats and the bum has lost over 20 pounds since January the 8th. And personally I think he is passing that weight onto me. But he has been doing awesome and no dieting, no really, just watches what and when he eats. We haven't changed anything in our way of eating at all. The only addition he has is protein shakes if he is wanting a sweet snack in the evenings and that is it. Not working for me but he is doing awesome.
I honestly think everything in moderation. When I tell myself I cant have something, I want it 1000 times more! Portion control and moderation is the key for me! I think its so great your exercising too! Its such a great way to lose weight and its such a stress relief for me as well : )
Good for you, Megan! 5 days at the gym is hard core. I don't eat anything after 7 p.m. I try not to drink my calories because I'd rather eat them. Protein with every meal helps. Most importantly, I DO NOT weigh myself. I go by how my clothes fit, and how I feel. If I weigh myself, then I just obsess on a number and get discouraged. 😉
